On Sunday, April 3, the traditional action “10,000 steps to life”, timed to the World Health Day, took place on Tsarevich Embankment. On this day, a record number of Vladivostok residents started – about 2,000 people.
“Today, 2,000 people are participating in Vladivostok, and it is not only the people who went to the distance during the mass start, but also those citizens who came a little later and were registered. For all participants we organized a circular distance of 1.5 km. Four laps is about 10,000 steps, ”said Yulia Velbik, head of the Vladivostok Department of Physical Culture and Sports.
At 10:00 girls and boys on scooters and bicycles, mothers with wheelchairs, retirees with sticks for Nordic walking and without them went to conquer the distance of 10,000 steps. At the finish, everyone received a badge. Free tea and water were also organized for the participants, it was possible to measure blood pressure, participate in street activities, listen to local performers.
Anastasia says that 10,000 steps a day is not the limit for her. “I always walk a lot, I like to walk. I wanted to take part in the action, I brought my husband with me. Usually my daily norm is 12-16 thousand steps, ”the girl said.
Another participant admitted that she leads a sedentary lifestyle, but wants to change that. “I decided to cheer myself up, took 10,000 steps. Usually I don’t go much, but now I set a goal to move more, “said Jeanne.
Angela Kabieva, Chief Freelance Specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Primorye Territory for Medical Prevention, noted that, according to the World Health Organization, a person who walks less than 5,000 steps a day leads a sedentary lifestyle. An active lifestyle can be called a person who walks 10,000 steps a day.
“That’s why we are striving for a bar of 10,000 steps. But it is always important to remember that everyone has their own record. You do not need to chase the number, you need to go the distance that your body allows and do it with pleasure, “- said Angela Kabieva.
It should be noted that last year in Primorye 6,500 people took part in this action, 1,200 of them in Vladivostok. This year walks are also organized in Arsenyev, Lesozavodsk, Spassk-Dalny, Nakhodka, Anuchino, Chuguevka, Partizansk. The organizers hope that this will be a new record.
