Egypt has appealed to the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the African Football Confederation (CAF) to replay the return match for the right to go to the World Cup against Senegal. This was announced by the President of the Egyptian Football Association Jamal Allam.
He said Egypt had filed a complaint against the Senegalese Football Federation over organizational security issues. “A lot has happened to us in this match, our players have been attacked. We asked to replay the match because the match took place in a strange atmosphere. If we had lost under normal circumstances, we would have congratulated Senegal and it was over, ”Allam quoted Youm7 as saying.
He said that representatives of the Egyptian Association will visit the FIFA Congress, which will be held on March 31, where they will meet with the President of the International Football Federation Gianni Infantino and hand him the relevant documents.
Nigerian fans staged riots after the World Cup
The match between Egypt and Senegal took place on March 29 in Dakar. The main time ended in favor of the Senegalese – 1: 0. The outcome of the confrontation was decided in a series of penalties, where the hosts were more accurate – 3: 1. The first butt match took place in Cairo and ended in a minimal victory for the Egyptians. Following the results of two games, Senegal made its way to the World Cup, which will be held in November and December this year in Qatar.
After the return match, the Egyptian Football Association reported that the team’s players were subjected to racism and intimidation by Senegalese fans. A statement from the organization said that local fans threw bottles and stones at the players during the warm-up, as well as attacked a bus carrying Egyptian footballers. In addition, Senegalese fans, according to the Egyptian side, shone laser pointers in the faces of players during a series of penalties.
A FIFA spokesman told Sky Sports that the organization was analyzing official reports on the match between Senegal and Egypt. “The relevant information included in the match reports will be assessed by the competent disciplinary bodies before a decision is taken on the next steps,” he said.
