He came under Western sanctions and left the Russian MMA Union with a scandal. What is happening now with Fedor Emelianenko

Western sanctions have reached MMA as well. No one is going to kick the Russians out of the UFC or Bellator, but the planned promotions in Russia have now been canceled. You can tolerate, but not Fyodor Emelianenko. Bellator was going to put on a grand show in Red Square for the last battle of the Last Emperor. Now Emelianenko risks going to the Russian promotion for a dignified end to his career.

KP Sport tells how the sanctions affected Fedor Emelianenko and where the Last Emperor will put an end to his career.

Why Fyodor Emelianenko is not afraid of Western sanctions

The last emperor was to be seen off in Red Square

In the summer of 2021, Fedor Emelianenko announced that he had signed a contract with Bellator on very attractive terms: 1 + 1. Contract for two fights, but after the first Emelianenko could unilaterally break it.

In October of the same year, Fedor knocked out American Timothy Johnson at Moscow’s VTB Arena. And he did it so easily that the forces remained for the second, already a farewell battle.

Everyone was waiting for something grand. Bellator also wanted to have a big holiday, said the head of the promotion Scott Cocker.

– Yes, a terrific show was planned in Moscow. I can even say that we received approval to hold this fight in Red Square. That would be the perfect farewell for the Greatest, Cocker said, not without sadness. All because the sanctions did not allow this tournament to take place.

Bellator was forced to postpone his thoughts on the Moscow top show, but Fedor Emelianenko did not seem to like the idea.

Hints of Emelianenko’s fight in the ASA

Fedor has only two options left for the last fight of his career: either to fight not in Russia (which, apparently, Emelianenko does not need), or to terminate the agreement with Bellator and go to the Russian promotion.

There will be no problems with the termination, Fedor has the right to leave at any time. But with the leagues in Russia it will be difficult. The Last Battle of the Last Emperor is an expensive painting. But it seems that the applicants have already been found.

ASA League Vice President Aslanbek Badaev made a translucent hint.

– We are talking to three world-class, extra-level fighters. Not just loud, but extra-loud fighters. There is one of them on that poster, – Badaev pointed to the poster that hung on the site of the Hustle MMA show. – They are very expensive, it’s hundreds of thousands of dollars, especially with the current exchange rate. We have now taken a break, but there are already agreements on the amounts, there is an understanding of with whom and when to put.

The poster featured Pride FC legends: Fedor Emelianenko, Mark Coleman, Mauricio Rui, Kevin Rendlman, Phil Baroni, Josh Barnett, Kazuhiro Nakamura and Mirko CroCop. It is noteworthy that many of these have officially ended their careers. Mauricio Rui and Josh Barnett remained in the cast, not counting Fedor.

Certainly, Badaev meant Fyodor Emelianenko. But who will be his opponent and whether this fight will take place in principle – a big question. And yes, the version with the return of the same Mirko Filipovich for one fight still should not be rejected.

In the meantime, around Fedor flared up scandal

Until recently, Emelianenko was the honorary president of the Russian MMA Union. But now the Last Emperor is not part of this structure. He says there are disagreements with the president of the organization Radmir Gabdullin and the executive director Lenar Ganeyev.

And this is a real shock to the bureaucratic world of MMA in Russia. Emelianenko and Gabdullin were close friends. But, apparently, only in public. What exactly happened at the top of the MMA Union of Russia is not reported. But Emelianenko made it clear that he would return to the organization if Gabdullin and Ganeyev resigned.

Previously, Fedor Emelianenko already held the post of President of the MMA Union from 2012 to 2016. Emelianenko was re-elected, but in 2018 he ceded his post to Radmir Gabdullin. It is also noteworthy that presidential elections are scheduled for the end of this year in the Russian MMA Union. It is likely that Fedor will try to run for them.
