Nichushkin knocked out Nashville, and his partner broke the goal net. The results of the NHL playoffs

The results of the NHL playoffs

Colorado was the first to make it to the second round of the Stanley Cup. But the progress of “Washington” and Ovechkin in the playoffs slowed down.

There were four games in the NHL playoffs tonight. Three series will continue; in another the winner became known.

Colorado became the first quarterfinalist of the Stanley Cup. “Avalanche” turned out to be the only team that managed to pass the first round without defeats. Nevertheless, in the fourth game of the series with “Nashville”, “avalanches” were not easy.

“Colorado” stood out in the second minute – Andre Burakowski excelled. Under the curtain of the segment, Jacob Trenin equalized the score. In the middle of the match, Cale Makar again made Avalanche the leader, but three minutes later Trenin made a double and restored parity.

In the debut of the third 20-minute “Nashville” through the efforts of Philip Forsberg made the score 3: 2 in his favor. However, “Colorado” refused to delay the series: Devon Taves lit the second three on the scoreboard, and eight minutes before the end Valery Nichushkin scored the winning goal of the “avalanche”: the Russian took advantage of Makar’s cutting pass and scored in one touch. Nichushkin spent almost 22 minutes on the field – more than any other striker on his team.

Pittsburgh was inhospitable to Rangers at home. The hosts started unsuccessfully and missed in the third minute: the first number of the previous draft Alexi Lafrenier excelled. However, even before the break, Sidney Crosby restored equality.

In the second period, the captain of the “Penguins” returned to his more familiar role of assistant and twice in 24 seconds helped his partners to excel. First, Crosby won a throw-in right on the hook of defender Mike Matheson, and then dispersed the attack, which was led by Jack Gunzel.

The Penguins did not stop there and hit Igor Shesterkin’s goal three more times until the end of the segment. For the final period, “Rangers” brought a reserve goalkeeper – Alexander Georgiev. But he did not resist the onslaught of rivals: Eugene Malkin filigree throw from an awkward hand made the final score – 7: 2. This goal allowed the 35-year-old center-forward to top the list of the best Russian scorers in the history of the NHL playoffs: Malkin scored 177 points in relegation matches and overtook Sergei Fedorov.

“Pittsburgh” managed to increase the advantage over “New York” – Pennsylvania leads in a series of 3-1. But the team of another Russian star missed the opportunity to break away from the opponent. Alexander Ovechkin’s “Washington” lost and allowed “Florida” to equalize in the confrontation – 2: 2.

And the “capital” has no one to blame for the painful defeat, except himself. In the course of the fourth game, they went ahead twice: TJ Oshi realized the majority in the first period – soon Carter Verage threw in the 4×4 lineup. 10 minutes before the end of the third period, Yevgeny Kuznetsov mockingly lured Sergei Bobrovsky out of the goal and again brought the Capitals to the lead. But Washington failed to hold on to the victory: two minutes before the siren, Sam Reinhart punched Ilya Samsonov and turned the game into overtime.

In the extra leg, the Panthers were cold-blooded and snatched the match thanks to Verage’s persistence. In the fifth minute, the striker threw from the entrance to the zone – did not get, but the first worked on the selection and the second attempt was accurate.

Following Florida, Calgary was able to catch up with its opponent. “Ogoniki”, which were considered the clear favorites in the series with “Dallas”, lost after three matches – 1-2. In the fourth game, the “Flames” did not save energy and from the first minutes embarked on a desperate pursuit of the “Stars”. In the first period alone, Dallas goalkeeper Jake Oettinger was forced to make 20 shots.

Largely due to the impeccable game of the American, the audience had half an hour of pure playing time to watch headless hockey. But at the equator of the meeting, the “stars” gave rivals a double majority, which was used with a powerful click by Rasmus Andersson.

Oettinger continued to defend his team’s goal almost alone. Only the partners remained indifferent to his exploits. In the eighth minute of the third period, Johnny Godreau earned a shot – and he realized it himself. After a few shifts, Elias Lindholm made the score big. Tyler Segin played one puck in the 5×4 line-up, but the last word was left for the Flames – Mikael Bucklund hit the empty net.

Goal of the day

In hockey reports, you can often find the phrase “stitched the net.” Andre Burakowski made this phrase literal. At the start of the match with Nashville, the Colorado striker was so fresh and strong that after his throw, the puck broke the goal net and flew into the field. The referees confidently spread their arms and did not stop the game – only a video video convinced them of the legitimacy of the goal.

Save the day

Jake Oettinger missed three goals and lost the match, but he can feel like a hero. He deflected 50 shots from the Calgary hockey players, who tried many different ways to break it.

Sometimes the “lights” were not helped by the most proven options. For example, Tyler Toffoli shot an empty corner of Ettinger’s goal from a distance of one and a half meters: the goalkeeper quickly moved, set a trap competently and stole a goal from the opponent.
