Austria should not resort to an embargo on Russian gas, as the country has other ways to tighten sanctions. This statement was made by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg to OE24 TV channel.
“We must not make the mistake that there is only one way. We have other ways to tighten sanctions, and we use them, “RIA Novosti quoted Schallenberg as saying.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which unfriendly Russian countries are obliged to pay for Russian gas imports in rubles. Germany and France later refused to comply with the president’s ultimatum, RT reports. On March 30, the German authorities launched an emergency plan in case of cessation of gas supplies from Russia.
Such a decision of the Russian leader is due to sanctions pressure from Western countries. The European Union, the United States, Japan and other countries have tightened anti-Russian sanctions due to Russia’s special operation in Ukraine.
