The resigned Kenneth Mackenzie has been replaced by new Pentagon Chief of Staff Michael Kurill. This is stated in a statement published on April 1 on the website of the Central Command of the US Armed Forces.
“The current head of the central command, Marine Corps General Kenneth Mackenzie, has resigned,” the statement said, RIA Novosti reported. According to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, leading the central command is a difficult mission. He expressed confidence that Michael Kurilla is ready for the new position.
Kenneth Mackenzie became Chief of Staff of the United States Armed Forces in March 2019. He also led a raid on Barisha in Syria to capture and eliminate the leader of the Islamic State terrorist group (an international terrorist organization banned in Russia) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. He also led the withdrawal of troops from Iraq in 2020-2021.
