Volkswagen Group plants may resume operations in Russia in the summer of 2022. This was reported by sources familiar with the company’s plans.

“Volkswagen Group Rus plants in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod may resume operations in June-July 2022,” Vedomosti reported, citing two sources. Employees were officially announced that the downtime would be until May 12. According to confirmed forecasts, it may last until July inclusive due to delays in the supply of some components from abroad, the source said. Transit through Ukraine is impossible, and Poland does not allow cargo, so the delivery of components to Istanbul and then through Georgia to Russia is being discussed, the source said. According to him, the leadership hopes to resolve this issue by mid-May.

The restart of the conveyors in June is being discussed in advance. Employees will receive a salary at least until mid-April, the source said.
