What is the play “Cyrano de Bergerac” about?

Cyrano de Bergerac is one of Edmond Rostan’s most repertory plays. She was repeatedly staged in theaters and received screen incarnations in cinema. But one of the main tasks of art is to speak in Aesopian language about the modern agenda, which is what Egor Peregudov does.

The protagonist of the play is an ironic poet and duelist Cyrano de Bergerac, who does not go for the word. It seems that he has all the ingredients for success, except for a beautiful appearance. The hero is ashamed of his big nose, but as if he fills all his shortcomings with poetic talent, which helps him talk about his unrequited love for his beloved woman – cousin Roxana. However, through intermediaries…

Roxana is in love with a dashing and handsome officer named Christian, who the girl thinks is writing her ironic but touching letters filled with tenderness. Although in fact the author of these messages – unrequited loving Bergerac.

Even in a difficult situation, he continues to think about the fact that his beloved woman finds in the letters a source of joy and strength.

Yegor Peregudov: “Paulina is, of course, Roxana”

It seems that it is even difficult to imagine other actors in the main roles…

“Yuri is a wonderful deep artist who combines different acting schools. And Paulina is Roxana. And when she comes out, there are no questions why everyone falls in love with her, – said Yegor Peregudov.

In the play there is a certain evolution of her character. Fate treats Roxana very harshly. It seems to me that this is an important acting task that Paulina is brilliantly solving. “

By the way, the audience enjoys not only the acting of Paulina Andreeva, but also her stunning form. In two acts of staging, the actress manages to change several outfits in which she demonstrates her chiseled figure.

In the first act it is a long black dress with a slit, then a fencing suit, a small black dress, in the second – an airy summer white dress with a large floral print, then – a deaf black dress, in which we see Roxana for 15 years. older. As the saying goes: “In all you, darling, outfits are good.”

Yuri Chursin: “I do not react to my appearance”

“Do you like my nose? I don’t really react to my appearance. And I treat it as a tool that I can change at any time, as soon as I want, “- said the actor.

The play can be divided into two parts: war and peace. In the second act, the scene is decorated in a military style, shots are fired, which immerses the audience in the appropriate atmosphere. And the refrain is the poems of Yevgeny Yevtushenko: “I dream of an old friend who became an enemy, but dreams not of the enemy, but of the same friend. He’s not with me, but he’s around now. And the head goes from dreams around. “

According to Yegor Peregudov, he wanted to talk to the audience about the poetic perception of reality in today’s cynical world. It is no coincidence that many of the events shown in the play resonate with today.

“We rehearsed this play for a long time. It seems to me that its greatness lies in the fact that it asks questions to which each epoch can find answers. This is the artist’s relationship with power, love, friendship, betrayal, death. Each epoch places its accents, ”explains Yegor Peregudov.

According to the director, rehearsing the play, he was guided by the words of the epitaph, which he composed for himself Cyrano de Bergerac: “Live like a poet.” By the way, in this image you can see a reference to the fate of repressed masters of the word: Mandelstam, Pasternak, Daniel Harms and others…
